Maaan...what is better than coming home after a weekend away to a hot plate, a cold drink, and an empty house? Nada. Not a damn thing. I came home from my trip to Arenal Volcano this weekend to find my host mom all dolled up and full of enthusiasm, saying she just finished making my dinner, and did I mind eating alone because she and her husband were about to step out for the night. Man, what? I think my smile was double the size of hers as I told her, "Si! Claro no! Go, have fun!" Two minutes later, mi familia tica was out the door and this was waiting for me at the table:

I don't know if y'all can tell, but that is a whole pitcher of
fresh watermelon juice just for me. I'm sure y'all can tell by the tone of my skin and the diction of my speech that I am genetically predisposed to LOVE watermelon, and with all my heart, I swear I do. I'm in absolute heaven. When I'd stepped in my room before dinner to put my bags down, I noticed all my laundry was done and my bed was made. Is this how mothers treat their children? Is this why some adults never leave home? Man. If I didn't value my personal space so much, I'd move in here.
I'd had every intention of coming home this evening and writing about my weekend, but when someone makes you a pitcher of fresh watermelon juice, you don't disrespect it by giving it half your attention. Stories of volcanoes, hot springs, zip lines and more can wait. Tonight, I will sit back, relax, and relish life's simple pleasures.
I need to hear more about how you organized your stay with a family one day. But back to the food. Mmm mmm mmm looks so good. Now I'm hungry!
ReplyDeleteIt was delicious! And the food is even better in Mexico! Thanks for reminding me I need to talk about how I found this place, though, I'll write about that now.
